A fine weekend is forecast for Manawatu with MetService not expecting any rain over Palmerston North.

Forecaster Stephen Glassey there would be ''a little bit'' of cloud around tomorrow morning with a fine afternoon to follow.
''Sunday's fine apart from morning and evening cloud, it's looking alright.''

Temperatures were expected to reach 19 degrees tomorrow and 21 on Sunday.

Some light north-westerly winds were expected during the weekend.

Meanwhile police were warning motorists heading north from Manawatu to take care around Taupiri and Taupo.

More than 8000 cyclists would be on the roads around Lake Taupo for the area's annual cycle challenge.

''Police will be visible around the course during Saturday's event.  Police are encouraging people to be patient during the event and those drivers visiting the area need to be aware and cautious of cyclists on the roads,'' Senior Sergeant Fane Troy of the Taupo area road policing group said.

Police remind drivers that if they are stopping to view the scenery to ensure that they stop in a safe area and pull well off the road.
