MidCentral District Health Board has confirmed a $6.7 million surplus for the 2011/2012 financial year.
The board confirmed the result in its annual report which was released earlier this month.
It is the second consecutive surplus following several years of losses.
The $6.7m exceeded budget expectations and meant that instead of putting aside 0.2 per cent of revenue for capital expenditure, the board has put aside 1.2 per cent instead.
It is consulting with staff about what to do with that extra money.
