People travelling to Palmerston North from Auckland have been stranded due to the tornado that ripped trough north west Auckland around lunch time today, killing three people and injuring several others.
The two flights cancelled thanks to the adverse weather conditions were due to leave Auckland at 1.25pm and 3.05pm.
"Passengers have been booked on alternative flights" said Air New Zealand spokesperson at Palmerston North airport Ken Walker.
Flights from Palmerston North to Auckland were unaffected.
Hundreds of people have been reported homeless due to the freak weather storm.
