LATEST: A 38 year-old man has been arrested after allegedly threatening a staff member with a knife at a Palmerston North business.

Police were called to the Square Edge building on Thursday last week about 1:17pm.

It was surrounded for more than an hour while officers searched for him, believing he was still inside.

Palmerston North constable Steve Field said the man was arrested at the scene of another burglary, this time a residential one, in Takaro on Saturday.

The unemployed man was charged with aggravated burglary and burglary, and will appear in the Palmerston North District Court today.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
