Kylee Guy and her family are pleased Ewen Macdonald is still behind bars and say they will oppose his parole "until the bitter end".

Mrs Guy's sister Chanelle Bullock said the whole family still found it tough dealing with anything involving Macdonald, so his parole denial came as a relief.

"Thank God he's not out really," she said.

"The family is happy with the decision."

Mrs Guy was not at yesterday's Parole Board hearing but in a submission, her family said they still considered Macdonald a danger to the community because his crimes were malicious and motivated by revenge.

Ms Bullock told Fairfax it was unlikely her family would ever feel safe with Macdonald free.

Mrs Guy is still working with private investigators in a bid to uncover fresh evidence on her husband's death.

She said she was not giving up on "Scotty" and anyone with information - no matter how small - should come forward.

"Justice needs to be done ... it would mean so much to our family and friends and especially our sons. We can't move forward without closure."
