Man breaches internet ban
A Manawatu man banned from owning dogs and accessing the internet after he paid a prostitute to take part in a sex act with his canine companion has been caught surfing the web.
But the man, whose name is suppressed, was not looking at anything X-rated – this time.
He was banned from owning his dog and any internet-capable device under the terms of his 12 months’ supervision sentence. That was imposed in June for one charge of indecency with an animal and 16 charges of possessing objectionable material.
The man was back in court last month trying to change the terms of his sentence so he could take his dog home from the kennel and use the internet, but his request was turned down and his ‘‘gall’’ criticised.
Now the man has admitted two charges of breaching his supervision.
The Feilding District Court was told yesterday that he was found in possession of an internet-capable smart phone on November 7.
And on November 27 an off-duty probation officer spotted him at a public library using the internet, although checks revealed he accessed only Trade Me, his email and the website of an education provider.
Judge Grant Fraser said the man’s breaches were concerning.
‘‘As long as you’re accessing a computer there’s a temptation, I suspect, on your part to delve into areas that you shouldn’t.’’
The man was ordered to do 75 hours’ community work.
