Three different Manawatu Countdowns have been targeted by armed intruders in the last week.
Feilding's Countdown Supermarket was robbed by a man wielding a hammer overnight.
Feilding Detective Greg Hogan said the store was entered by a disguised man carrying a hammer about 9:45pm.
Witness statements were still being taken, but he left the store on foot with a quantity of cash.
On Sunday night, Countdown on Palmerston North's Broadway Ave was also robbed by an armed intruder, and Countdown Kelvin Grove was entered by an armed and disguised man, who left after a scuffle with store security which saw the guard suffer a small cut.
Mr Hogan said police were investigating the link between the events and were reviewing CCTV footage.
Police still wanted to talk to a witness who spoke to staff at the Kelvin Grove Countdown supermarket on the night the store's security guard was assaulted by a disguised man carrying a weapon.
Detective sergeant Ashley Gurney said a witness spoke to Countdown staff after the incident and recounted what they saw, but did not leave their details.
Police would like to talk to that person.
Ten minutes after the first incident, Countdown on Broadway was similarly entered by an armed offender, also believed to be male wearing a disguise, who threatened staff with a weapon.
He took cash from the store and left.
Witnesses, or anyone with information about the incidents should contact police on 06 349 3600, or via Crimestoppers 0800 555 111
