While Manawatu's real estate market had a weak finish to 2012, numbers were still up on 2011.
The median sales price in the region last month was $244,000, down by $1000 on November.
However, it was a 6 per cent rise on December 2011.
The number of houses sold in December rose from 193 in 2011 to 214 last month.
Time to sell was relatively flat, jumping from 36 days to 37.
The year-on-year median price fell in Palmerston North by 2.6 per cent to $265,500, while Feilding's rose 9.6 per cent to $246,000.
Nationally, the median price was up 9.6 per cent on December 2011 to a new record of $389,000.
About 74,000 homes were sold during 2012 - the highest number since 2007.
