A Palmerston North Lotto winner will be sleeping easy and not just because of her $500,000 windfall.
Yvonne, who did not want her surname made public, won a promotional prize in the January 5 draw but did not check her ticket for more than a week.
The winning ticket was bought from Countdown on Rangitikei St. Among the first purchases Yvonne, a regular Lotto player, plans to make is a new mattress.
''When I went in and handed the ticket to the operator she told me that I'd won a small prize,'' laughed Yvonne.
''She then joked that actually it was a big prize.
''I was overwhelmed and couldn't believe it. You always joke about winning the big one, and when it happens it can take a while to sink in.''
High on Yvonne's list of priorities is helping her family and doing up her kitchen.
''I've decided I'm not moving, but my kitchen is a bit tired, so it would be nice to have a bit of work done on it.''
''I'm most looking forward to replacing my mattress though - it's been 20 years since I've had a new one.''
