A 75-year-old Dannevirke woman was taken to Palmerston North Hospital after crashing her car into a bank on Napier Rd.

Senior Constable Rod Reid said the woman had been travelling home and was between Woodville and Dannevirke when the accident happened about 1.45pm yesterday.

She appeared to have lost control of the car and over-corrected, sliding across the road and striking the bank on the other side.

Fire services from Woodville attended the scene to help the woman get out of her car.

She wasn’t trapped, but they widened the doorway to make it easier for her. She was taken to hospital by ambulance for observation, Mr Reid said.

Earlier in the day, three people were taken to Palmerston North Hospital with minor injuries after two cars clipped each other on a passing lane on State Highway 3, near Stewart Rd.

Feilding Sergeant David Burmeister said the accident happened about 11.45am.

The crash caused one of the vehicles to roll.

It was the occupants from that vehicle, driven by a 54-year-old man, who were taken to hospital.

The 48-year-old male driver of the other vehicle was unharmed.
