LATEST: Police are no longer treating the death of a 48-year-old man near Rongotea as suspicious.

Marton man Richard Francis Baxter Mclean was staying at a Bainesse Road property when he was found dead by the home owner at around 8.30am on Saturday.

Detective Senior Sergeant Marc Hercock said police were not looking for anyone in relation to the incident.

"The cause of death still remains unexplained, however, there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding Mr Mclean's death," Hercock said.

Police are nearing the finish of their investigation and the case will soon be referred to the coroner.
