A Marton man caused shoppers to stop and stare when he walked into a supermarket naked.

Marton police constable Richard Gower said a 21-year-old man, who lives near town, appeared to have left home and walked into town without any clothing on on Wednesday morning.

When he reached Broadway - Marton's main street - he wandered into the Countdown supermarket, where police were called to come and pick him up about 8am.

Mr Gower said the man was known to mental health providers, and was undergoing a mental health assessment.
