A Levin man who went missing for 24 hours in the Ohau Valley was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

Levin Senior Sergeant Willie Roy said Stuart Richard Rangihuna, 39, was in a stable condition in Levin Hospital yesterday after spending the night outdoors.

Mr Rangihuna went missing after leaving a note for his wife saying he had gone for a walk to "the lake", believed to be Lake Horowhenua, in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

He did not return home after his walk and local police and Search and Rescue volunteers searched tracks around Lake Horowhenua and other nearby lakes that night.

Mr Roy said Mr Rangihuna was found in remote bush near Trig track, several hundred metres off Denton Rd, east of Levin, just before 9am yesterday.
