A magnitude 3.3 earthquake occurred in Rangitikei this afternoon.

The earthquake struck at 12.20pm, 5km east of Hunterville at a depth of 48km.

It comes two days after a magnitude 4.5 earthquake rattled a similar area on Saturday afternoon.

That earthquake was felt across Manawatu including Palmerston North.
