Two people have been taken to Palmerston North hospital after a two-car collision in the central city.

The crash occurred at about 12.50pm on Monday on intersection of Walding and Taonui St, Constable Allan McLean said.

Both drivers were taken to hospital. One driver, a man delivering courier parcels at the time, suffered moderate head injuries with heavy facial bleeding.

The other driver, an elderly woman, was still having her condition assessed.

The inclement weather conditions may have been a factor but police were still investigating.

Both cars suffered extensive damage. Walding St remained open.

Meanwhile, two cars were involved in a collision on Longburn Rongotea Road, about 100m from the State Highway 56 intersection just before 2pm. 

A white HiAce van was extensively damaged and ended up against the concrete wall of a neighbouring property, while a campervan suffered moderate damage.

The only person taken to hospital was an elderly woman, a passenger in the van, with minor injuries.

A police officer on the scene said the incident was believed to have been caused by the wet conditions, causing the vehicles to slip.
