Crimes catch up with petrol thief

On three occasions Palmerston North labourer Joseph Robert Sorensen, 43, pulled up to city petrol stations, waited for his female passenger to fill up, then drove off without paying.

He stole $101 worth of petrol from Gull on December 20, $128 from Caltex, Fitzherbert Ave, on December 28, and $104 from Mobil, Rangitikei St, on January 7.

In the Palmerston North District Court yesterday he admitted three charges of theft and was sentenced to 120 hours’ commdhunity work and told to pay the money back.
