Palmerston North police are singing the praises of the city's returning and new students after a quiet weekend.

Senior Sergeant Brett Calkin said the student toga party on Saturday night, part of Orientation Week celebrations, saw a large number of students in town, but they were "exceptionally well behaved".

Four students were arrested for breaching the liquor ban, but all were warned and released from custody.

That was it for student arrests for the weekend, he said.

"They were really well behaved. We were really pleased with the way they conducted themselves".

Massey University's Student Association's Orientation Week runs from February 22 to March 2.
