The owners of a Himatangi holiday park are celebrating a decade in business by becoming the first duo to win a prestigious industry award twice.

The Himatangi Beach Holiday Park - owned by Margaret and Dennis Penney - has been judged the top holiday park at the recent AA Spirit of Hospitality awards.

The Penneys are the first park owners to win the award twice, after first taking it home in 2007.

Mr Penney said it was an excellent way to bring up 10 years of running the camp.

"We've been very humbled by it all."

The couple run the campground on their own for most of the year

"It's just getting out there and talking to customers and taking on board what they say.

"If they mention they need something like a hook there and a light there, I'll consider it and sort it out."

AA Tourism chief executive Moira Penman said the personable service offered at the site set Himatangi Beach Holiday Park apart.

"I was especially impressed with the reviews recalling Margaret's ability to meet a guest and then consistently greet them by name for the duration of their stay.

"Dennis and Margaret's ability to make their guests feel at home, while providing activities to entertain families during their stay leaves a lasting impression on their visitors."

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
