Red-nosed Turbos glad to do their bit for kids
Their colour may be green but The Turbos were more than happy to add a bit of red to their uniform for the Cure Kids Red Nose Day appeal.
The Manawatu rugby team couldn't wait to get their hands on a bag of red noses and support research into child health yesterday.
Turbos captain Nick Crosswell said it was a bit of a laugh putting on a red nose with his team-mates - but there was a serious tone to the clowning around.
"It's an awesome cause and a great thing to get behind.
"Kids make up a massive part of our fan base and anything we can do to get behind them, we will," he said. "Supporting the charity is something we can do, it's easy but so important."
Palmerston North Red Nose Day events organiser Laurel Winiata said the response to the events in the city was overwhelming.
"It's been huge and just blown my mind how many people have jumped on board," she said. "I'm just a mum and we've been contacted by people wanting to donate cupcakes and help out."
Mrs Winiata and a support team made a collection around the clock tower last night.
