LATEST: A deadly few hours saw three young people die in separate crashes on lower North Island roads.
About 2.45pm yesterday Feilding police were called to an area of State Highway 3 just east of Stewart Rd in Manawatu where 33-year-old Jacob Rata had been hit by a passing truck.
He died at the scene. The Serious Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
About 12.35pm yesterday a 14-year-old boy died after a four-wheel-drive rolled in a forest in Turangi.
Police said three 14-year-olds, a girl and two boys, were travelling along Kepa Rd about 12.25pm yesterday.
The vehicle rolled and one of the boys died, while the other two suffered minor injuries. Police were yesterday investigating who was driving the vehicle.
Earlier yesterday, a young man died after his car hit a bank on State Highway 2 near Mt Bruce in Tararua.
The Westpac rescue helicopter attended the 9am crash but paramedics were unable to save the 17-year-old man, who police this morning identified as Kane Thomas O'Donovan of Pahiatua.
