Apology made for typing error
Palmerston North electoral officer John Annabell has published an apology to city council candidate Chris Teo-Sherrell for a spelling mistake in his profile statement.
The statement has been printed and is being distributed with voting papers for the October 12 local body elections.
It incorrectly spells the word "ratepayers" as "rateypayers".
Cr Teo-Sherrell said he first became aware of the mistake on the vote.co.nz website when someone drew it to his attention. The mistake was repeated in the candidate profile booklet that accompanies postal voting papers.
Cr Teo-Sherrell said it was bizarre that the error could have happened, when he had provided his profile statement in electronic form and it could have been easily cut and pasted without any retyping required.
He said Dr Annabell had handled his complaint about the error "absolutely appropriately", and he accepted the apology.
"I could have let it go, but then, I did not want people to think I was calling them ‘rateypayers'."
