Just more than one in five Palmerston North electors have cast their votes for Saturday's local body elections, lagging slightly behind returns in 2010.
People not on the roll but eligible to vote have until Friday to apply for enrolment, and special voting facilities will remain open until noon on Saturday at the council's customer service centre.
Electoral officer John Annabell is advising people intending to post their voting papers to do so by Wednesday at the latest.
People can drop off their votes at the customer service centre up until noon on Saturday.
The final batch of papers received will be flown to Auckland, where it is expected most of them will be processed in time to be included in progress results to be announced at 7pm on Saturday evening.
