The weather is closing in around Manawatu, just in time to make the Labour Weekend holiday dash extra dicey.
Police are warning motorists about travelling on State Highway 1 between Wellington and the Central Plateau to be wary of strong winds and heavy rain currently causing poor visibility throughout the area.
Caution was being urged.
MetService meteorologist Daniel Corbett said the worst of the weather was circling around Manawatu as at 3pm, with a solid block of rain between Palmerston North and Taihape.
It would ease to showers and then fine spells later this evening, he said.
