FEED'S UP: On the menu of Palmerston North Hospital this Christmas, patients will have a meal of roast lamb, turkey and vegetables, accompanied by homemade stuffing and lashings of gravy.

A meal of roast lamb, turkey and vegetables, accompanied by homemade stuffing and lashings of gravy, will be on the menu for the hundreds of people with the misfortune of being in hospital this Christmas.

Spotless Facility Services kitchen staff will serve the Christmas Day lunch to about 220 patients in Palmerston North, 100 in Whanganui, and 20 at the Horowhenua Health Centre.

Vegetarians will be able to tuck into a filo roll, with roast vegetables, baby carrots and green beans.

It will all be followed by steamed plum pudding with brandy sauce and pavlova with berry sauce for dessert.

The Christmas festivities continue at dinner time with the three options being glazed ham off the bone, with steamed gourmet potatoes and salad, a turkey and cranberry sandwich with garden salad, or a roast vegetable and feta salad.

There will have the choice of three evening desserts: double chocolate mousse, stewed fruit, or jelly and ice cream.

On Christmas Eve, patients will be offered Christmas treats served on trays with a festive theme.

Christmas Day will start with a breakfast menu including croissants and fruit toast.About 153 Meals on Wheels recipients - 88 people in Palmerston North/Feilding, 46 in Wanganui and 19 in the Levin/Foxton/Otaki areas - will receive the same menu as hospital lunch patients.
