Santa was kept busy with appearances at the weekend, waving his way through excited crowds in four towns.

He started in Ashhurst then made his way through Woodville, Shannon and Feilding, delighting children and adults alike.

By far the biggest turnout was in Feilding, where families crowded the streets throughout the town centre to catch a glimpse of Santa in his sleigh.

Joining him was an array of elaborately decorated floats, bearing all manner of characters and creatures, including princes and princesses, pirates and superheroes, a walking rail crossing and a dragon.

While children kept their eyes peeled for lollies, entertainers danced, tumbled, and even stood on horseback to entertain the crowds in the hot summer sun. But from ducks to smurfs, oompa loompas and Christmas elves, fairies and farm animals, all Santa's escorts were united in their festive cheer.

Have you had a garage sale lately?

Yes, it's too much effort to put all that junk online.

No, I sell everything on Trademe.

I just give things I don't want to charity.
