After a gloomy weekend, Palmerston North looks set to end the year on a sunny note.
The MetService's computer-generated 10-day forecast promises improved weather for the city and surrounds.
Today should be the last of the barbecue-dousing rain and westerly winds before it fines up for the end-of-year celebrations.
MetService's New Year's Eve forecast suggests morning cloud will clear in time to farewell 2013.
But early forecasts for 2014 indicate the showers and westerly wind will return from Thursday on.
Meteorologist John Law said the computer-generated model could often be misleading.
"There are still a few days left to firm up the timing and details of the forecast.
"It's one to keep an eye on over the next few days because it can definitely change. No-one should get too depressed, because it doesn't actually look too bad."
Despite the drizzle, Palmerston North should have warm conditions with temp-eratures around the mid-20s this week.
