Changes to parking outside Palmerston North Airport's terminal will be introduced on Monday.

Three self-service pay stations have been installed to allow for faster exits.

Instead of paying at the exit gate kiosk on the way out, customers will now need to pay for their parking at one of the automated pay stations before returning to their car.

The layout of the parking area has been upgraded.

New signs and road markings have been added to encourage more people to use the main car park for short stops.

The free time limit in the main car park has been increased to 15 minutes to promote the change.

The new layout will also separate the rental car-parking zone from public parking.

Business services manager Leanne MacDonald said the changes were based on customer feedback. "It's just what the customers want."

The airport has also upgraded the public drop-off and pick-up zone, and removed the five-minute parking area for pedestrian safety reasons. Parking charges will not be increased.
