A Foxton man killed in a fatal car crash south of Palmerston North can now be named.

He was 56-year-old Peter Stephen Robb.

Robb was killed in a crash near Tiakitahuna, south of Palmerston North, on No 1 Line at about 5.30pm yesterday.

Robb's vehicle crashed into a ditch as he travelled south on No 1 Line close to where it becomes Tiakitahuna Rd.

Cordons were in place around the crash site until the road reopened at 11pm.

Palmerston North police said the serious crash unit was continuing to investigate the crash and it was too early to determine what caused it.

Police wanted to speak to anyone travelling on No 1 Line between 5pm and 5:30pm yesterday and asked that the public contact them on 06 351 3600 or anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
