A Tararua farm worker injured after being menaced by a cow suffered a broken leg.

The Norsewood farm worker, in his 20s, broke his femur after falling from a motorbike shortly before 7am on Sunday.

Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter pilot Chris Moody said the man was moving a herd of dairy cows after they had been milked, when one of the animals turned on him.

The rescue helicopter was called and transported the man to Palmerston North Hospital, where he was treated and discharged later that day.
