LATEST: Three women were injured, one seriously, in a crash between a truck and a car on State Highway 3 near Palmerston North.

The crash occurred near the intersection with Glenburn Rd, between Whakarongo and Ashhurst, about 2pm yesterday.

The women were treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to Palmerston North Hospital by ambulance,

Manawatu District St John operations manager Steve Yanko said. He said one of the women was seriously hurt, while the other two had moderate injuries.

A MidCentral District Health Board spokesman said the three were being assessed by hospital staff and were in a stable condition late yesterday afternoon.

Sergeant Peter Theobald said one person was trapped in the car for a short time.

Constable James Bennet spoke to the Manawatu Standard at the scene.

''All I can say is it's truck versus car; car's in the ditch, and several patients are in hospital.

''Judging by the damage on the car, it's been broadsided.''

The status of the truck driver was not yet known, but the Standard understands he did not suffer serious injuries.

The police serious crash unit was called and the highway was reduced to one lane for about 30 minutes after the crash.

Will Aaron Cruden's omission hurt or help the All Blacks?

Hurt - he needs as much game time as possible.

Help - finally Beauden Barrett will get a proper run.

Hmmm - no biggie, just a temporary hitch.

Who is Cruden? I support the All Whites.
