A post mortem is underway today on the body of a man in his late 60s found with severe burns at a Russell St house in Palmerston North on Friday night.

A woman in her 30s, who was taken to hospital with critical stab wounds from the same address, underwent a second round of surgery last night.

She remains in a serious but not life-threatening condition, and police have not yet been able to speak to her.

Police have not confirmed the relationship between the two, except to say they are from the same Chinese family.

The scene examination is expected to be completed by late this afternoon.

It is not being treated as a homicide investigation.

Officer in charge of the Manawatu CIB Detective Sergeant Craig Sheridan said the situation was horrific for the family, and the language barrier was slowing inquiries.

Will Aaron Cruden's omission hurt or help the All Blacks?

Hurt - he needs as much game time as possible.

Help - finally Beauden Barrett will get a proper run.

Hmmm - no biggie, just a temporary hitch.

Who is Cruden? I support the All Whites.
