A ban on using sprinklers comes into force on Wednesday in Bulls and Taihape.
The restrictions are required because of a fire at the Bulls water treatment plant and low water levels in the Hautapu River, the source of Taihape's water.
Hand-held hoses can still be used at any time provided they are attended.
Soak hoses and fixed irrigation systems are strictly prohibited at all times.
The ban applies to properties connected to the municipal water supplies in Bulls and Taihape.
