Man flown to hospital after crash

LATEST: A man in his 50s has been flown to Palmerston North Hospital following a crash south of Pongaroa this morning.

Police Central Communications acting inspector Marc Clausen said a vehicle went down a bank 10km south of Pongaroa on Route 52, between Waihoki Valley Rd, and Huia Rd about 7.30am.

The car had run off the road, down a bank and into a tree.

The driver, who was the only person in the vehicle, was taken to hospital by the Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter.

He suffered chest injuries and was stablised at the scene by St John paramedics. 

He was in a stable condition at hospital.
