A police investigation at the flat where a Feilding woman received life-threatening injuries continues today.

The 49-year-old woman remained in a critical condition in Palmerston North Hospital today after emergency services were called to a flat on Russell St, Feilding, on Thursday last week.

The flat has been under police guard ever since, with forensic investigators and detectives working at the property.

Detective Senior Sergeant Craig Sheridan said the scene remained under guard today, and they were ''not too far from being finished''.

The woman's condition had not changed at all in the past 24 hours and they were unable to speak to her, he said.

He would not say how she sustained the injuries and said he did not know if a weapon was involved.

It was a ''confined'' investigation, but he did not elaborate further.

About 14 police staff were working on the case and had made "a lot" of progress.

It was "difficult" when there was a victim involved they could not speak to, he said.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
