A bit of thinking out of the box went into the planning of College Street Normal School's latest fundraiser.

‘Movies by Moonlight' is offering two films tomorrow and three on Saturday. PTA chairwoman Nicky Vallender said they "tried to think of something that no-one else had done and something that the wider community could get involved in too".

PTA committee member Shelly Deegan said "It's a great, affordable night out for the family and we are pretty sure it has never been done in Palmerston North before. A pretty cool reason to have an outdoor cinema event."

There will be a range of films that will appeal to the whole family, from Planes through to ET, and Ms Vallender said to "bring a blanket, cuddle up, it will be great".

"It is a costly fundraiser," said Ms Deegan, with the big screen being hired, technical providers needed and a licence purchased, but one made possible by a grant from the Central Energy Trust.

If the event goes well and the turnout warrants it, then another Movies by Moonlight event may be held in October.

If the weather is unsuitable for the outdoor event it will be moved into the school hall.

Food stalls will be available on the night and it is a no-alcohol event. Tickets will be available on the night.
