Palmerston North has just had its driest two-month spell on record.

Local weather watcher Ian Cooper made the calculation as the heavens finally opened over the weekend.

Between February 10 and April 10, the city had 10.6 millimetres of rain.

The previous driest two-month period was January 21 to March 21, 1978, with 18.1mm.

The record for the longest period without rain in the district is 44 days, held by Foxton - December 31, 1927 to February 12, 1928 - and Glen Oroua - November 15 to December 28, 1960. Palmerston North went 21 days without rain this year.

What do you make of New World's Little Shop toys?

I agree with Gareth Morgan, toys are 'brainwashing' kids.

They're harmless fun.

They're educational.

Cunning marketing but not brainwashing.
