A 13-year-old boy and his 48-year-old father received an airlift to Palmerston North Hospital after getting into trouble hunting in the Tararua Range.

A search and rescue callout was sparked for the pair about 2.30pm yesterday.

The Palmerston North Rescue Helicopter found them in the Tokomaru River valley where they had been hunting deer with two other family members.

The man had suffered a leg injury and the boy was suffering mild hypothermia, helicopter staff said.

A Palmerston North Hospital spokesman said the pair had been discharged yesterday without being required to enter a ward.

The lower drink-driving limits from December are:

Great - too much carnage on our roads.

Overkill - targets moderate drinkers, not the heavies

Still too little - make it zero tolerance.

Sensible - punishment is in line with lesser breaches of limit.
