Telco merger 'buts' likely
The 3200 staff employed by Vodafone and TelstraClear may have to wait a little longer to find out whether they are to become colleagues.
The Commerce Commission is still indicating on its website that it will rule today on whether it will clear Vodafone's $840 million takeover of TelstraClear.
But a spokeswoman would not confirm late yesterday that the regulator still expected to meet that target.
The commission is expected to approve the takeover, but possibly with some conditions that could include forcing the merged firm to dispose of more of its radio spectrum.
Vodafone spokeswoman Michelle Baguley said Vodafone was not proposing to buy all of the spectrum currently owned by TelstraClear; TelstraClear's Australian parent Telstra would retain some spectrum for mobile telephony, she said. Fairfax NZ
