Sir Ngatata Love has been removed as chairman of the Port Nicholson Block Settlement Trust.

At the trust's first meeting since its annual meeting last month, former Labour Cabinet minister Mahara Okeroa was appointed chairman.

Sir Ngatata was elected foundation chairman four years ago to manage a $25 million Treaty of Waitangi deal on behalf of 14,000 claimants.

However, in August he stood down from the Port Nicholson trust and a series of other Maori trusts, days before the Serious Fraud Office announced an investigation into transactions at the Wellington Tenths Trust.

Sir Ngatata was previously chairman of the tenths trust and remains a trustee.

Toarangatira Pomare was elected deputy chairman at yesterday's Port Nicholson meeting in Wellington.

Sir Ngatata, who remains a trustee, was not at the meeting.
