A crash on Awahuri Rd closed the road mid-morning last Thursday, as police, fire and ambulance personnel attended the scene.

Fire fighters had to open up the roof of the white Mazda car to extract its lone occupant, a woman.

Sergeant Chris Payne said the woman had been travelling towards Feilding on Awahuri Rd when it appeared she lost control of her vehicle, hit the side of the road and then rolled to the other side of the road, crashing through a barrier on the way.

A bus carrying a sports team heading for Napier was travelling behind the car.

The passengers gave assistance, stopping the traffic until police and fire engines arrived from Feilding.

The woman was trapped for 45 minutes before she could be freed from the car.

She was taken to Palmerston North Hospital with moderate injuries.
