A 15-year-old Christchurch boy has been arrested for allegedly stabbing his father in the neck during an argument.

The incident happened at the family's Hornby home just after 5pm on Monday.

Detective Sergeant Earle Borrell said the 42-year-old victim was stabbed once in the neck.

Other family members were at the house, but no-one else was injured.

The boy was arrested at the scene, and police recovered a kitchen knife from the house.

Borrell said police were waiting for the victim's condition to be confirmed before determining charges.

The teenager appeared in the Youth Court yesterday and was remanded to May 22.
