Manawatu freestyle motocross rider Levi Sherwood finished third in the latest stop of the Red Bull X-Fighters tour in Germany yesterday, but still leads the championship.
Australian Josh Sheehan won today's event in Munich on a spectacular track built on the lake of the city's famous Olympic Park.
Sheehan's win sees him seriously cut into Sherwood's series lead.
Heading to the final event of the tour in Pretoria, South Africa, on August 23, Sherwood has 265 points with Sheehan just five points behind in second. The Australian produced a dazzling assortment of tricks in Germany to beat Japan's Taka Higashino in the final.
Sheehan edged Sherwood in the semifinals but the Kiwi turned around and beat German star Luc Ackerman for the bronze medal.
Sherwood has two wins and two thirds from four events this year.
