Secondary schools title to Westlake Boys' High

Westlake Boys' High capped a dominant performance at the national secondary schools championships with a 76-53 win over Hamilton's Fraser High in the final in Palmerston North on Saturday.

Tall Black Rob Loe scored 14 points and Mitch Richmond grabbed 17 to repel the Jeff Green-coached Fraser.

Church College completed a stunning three-peat with a 65-42 win over New Plymouth Girls' High in the girls' section.

The Mormon school is closing at the end of year and leaves a remarkable basketball legacy behind them, with their boys' and girls' teams regularly featuring in the top end of the national competition.

Church College's boys' team finished third this year when they beat Mana College 76-60.

Palmerston North Boys' High finished 20th in the 24-team competition after losing to Otago Boys' High, 82-71 in their final match with Luke Bardsley top-scoring with 18 points.

Freyberg High finished 19th in the girls' section on the back of 22 points from Danielle Pomare-Mackay with a 60-56 win over Auckland Girls' Grammar.
