Demon FMX to unleash freestyle fury

It's ultimate daredevil motorsport; high-octane excitement with the emphasis on high.

That's Demon FMX Full Throttle Fury, an adrenaline-pumping freestyle motocross event at Manfeild tomorrow.

The show by Full Throttle Events Ltd presents a troupe of four professionals jumping performance motorbikes a giddying 25 metres while performing gravity-defying, mind-blowing tricks.

Manfeild chief executive Heather Verry says one of the attractions of the touring show is that it delivers top Kiwi talent on the verge of international stardom.

Stephen Brooker, director of Wellington-based Full Throttle, says his riders are committed to a display of freestyle fury and finesse.

"The rural and suburban backbone of New Zealand is often left high and dry when it comes to no-limits, exhilarating entertainment, but that's about to change," he said.

"These guys are guaranteed to please the crowd. Three of the boys grew up on farms and dirt bikes are as essential as gumboots to them."

Providing the requisite lift-off and – usually – safe landing is a portable, purpose-designed launch and landing ramp array.

"We have developed a portable FMX ramp system purpose-built for sports grounds, street displays, stadiums, arenas, festivals and speedways," explained Brooker.

At Manfeild, the show will be located on the grass area in front of the former Feilding Jockey Club members' stand.

The riding talent spans the country – Liston Borrie and Trent Garton from Kaitaia in the Far North and Bosse Mikkelsen from Invercargill.

Colin Squire, of Auckland, is the city-bred exception among a group of farm boys.

Full Throttle has performed at A and P Shows, music festivals, Super 14 matches and public events throughout New Zealand.

The show starts at 6.30pm and lasts for an hour.
