A family of four will pay about $120 to watch a Rugby World Cup game in Palmerston North.

Ticket prices were released yesterday and chief tournament organiser Martin Snedden said he was "desperately keen" to turn cost into a non-issue for people who wanted a slice of the action.

Ticket prices also had to reflect the international standing of the event, he said.

Prices would start at $20 for children and would range up to $95 for adults in Palmerston North.

Snedden said he expected most venues to fill up, especially in provincial areas.

He believed rugby fans and non-fans alike would be caught up in the excitement of the event.

Snedden said the Rugby World Cup in 2011 would be the biggest event ever staged by New Zealand.

Arena Manawatu is scheduled to host matches on September 28 and October 2.

Tickets will go on sale in April next year. Tickets for the final in Auckland start at $390, with the top category priced at $1250.
