Cameron inspires Old Boys to big win

Henry Cameron's return to the Old Boys' batting lineup inspired them to a whopping 389 for eight as they crushed Palmerston by 261 runs yesterday.

Cameron smashed 127 from 78 balls, including five sixes, opening the batting with Robbie Laird (21) and brought his hundred up off only 67 deliveries.

The 24-year-old from Wairarapa is returning to Massey University this year and, with the start times of tertiary studies, is available for the start and the end of the season.

Old Boys' No3 Josh Jacques made 85 and Vili Tosi smacked 57 as they racked up a club record total which included 15 sixes.

Palmerston North Boys' High School scored their first win of the one-day competition with a five-wicket victory against United.

After winning the toss and batting, United were rolled for 96, with only Scott Major (33) making a score of note.

Boys' High left-armer Phil Mecredy grabbed four for 13 from 7.3 overs. The rest of the wickets were shared around.

Opener Hayden Hill scored 34 and Robbie Yule was unbeaten on 23 as Boys' High got the winning runs in the 32nd over.

Boys' High coach Paul Gibbs was happy with his team's effort.

"It's always good to pick up a win with a new team," he said in reference to the number of new players they have in their squad.

"They did very well, to be honest, it's good to knock over a senior side for under 100."

Freyberg dealt Marist a 121-run loss after batting first and making 230 for nine.

They recovered well after being four down for only 16 at one stage, with Jeremy Morris (68) and Chris Turkington (55) the main contributors.

In reply Marist were bowled out in the 33rd over for only 109 with Craig Harrison top scoring with 30.
