The Takaro Bowling Club's main green will never be the same after excavations started for the new artificial green this week.
Six drains have been dug to a depth of 300mm. They are to be filled with geotech material to stop mud coming up, and plastic piping and metal.
Club members have helped demolish the green surrounds. The green is to be moved five metres closer to Featherston St Higgins Ltd will move in about August 10 to remove shrubs, old sheds and to scrape 200mm of soil off the old green.
The $225,000 project is expected to be finished well before the season opening on October 2.
