Boys' High winning streak ends
A penalty given away at the last minute has ended Palmerston North Boys’ High first XV’s ten-year winning streak over traditional rivals St Patrick’s College Silverstream.
Leading 10-8 with time up, star halfback Jamie Booth, in a moment of madness, threw the ball out from the field of play.
It gave replacement St Pat’s first-five eighth Josh Robertson-Weepu a penalty kick in front of the posts.
He stepped up and kicked the goal giving the Wellington team an 11-10 victory.
Boys’ High had done well to fight back, scoring 10 points on the trot after earlier trailing 8-0 at the break.
In a frenetic final few minutes St Pat’s travelled the length of the sodden Boys’ High field to put the pressure on and, unfortunately for the hosts, they cracked.
It was PNBHS’ second loss in four days after going down to Tauranga Boys’ College first XV on Saturday.
Scorers: PNBHS 10 (Daniel Monaghan try; Zyon Hekenui pen, con) St Patrick’s College Silverstream 11 (Aidan Woodward try; Liam Forbes pen, Josh Robertson-Weepu pen).
