Both Central teams dipped out on tomorrow's semifinals in the National Hockey League in Auckland.
The men's team had an outside chance until yesterday but were beaten 4-2 by Midlands, New Zealand player Nick Wilson scoring another goal for the Central Mavericks.
That loss left them well adrift in sixth place with only Canterbury and Northland below them. Capital's win in the last match of the day extinguished their hopes.
Capital, North Harbour and Southern grabbed the remaining three spots alongside Auckland.
In the women's competition, North Harbour upset defending champions Auckland in the last game of the day to grab the fourth semifinals spot.
The Central Mysticks finished one off the bottom after losing 3-2 to Southern.
