The Manawatu Turbos will challenge for the Ranfurly Shield later this month, following Taranaki's successful defence against Canterbury.
Taranaki won 18-9 at New Plymouth's Yarrow Stadium on Saturday afternoon, paving the way for the Turbos to take them on at the same venue on Saturday, September 29.
Before that Manawatu, which has won two and lost three so far this season, take on form team Counties-Manukau in Palmerston North on Thursday in their Championship tier ITM Cup clash.
Taranaki play two away games - at Auckland on Wednesday and Northland next Saturday - before taking on the Turbos.
The Turbos last challenged for the Log O' Wood in 2009 against Canterbury, losing 50-26.
